Space Organization Client:
Rebecca, Empty Nester
CHALLENGE:
Rebecca's family are longtime clients we’ve had the privilege of working with through key transition points in the life of their family. We began when the twins were toddlers—creating systems for the toys, crafts and children's things that had taken over their family dining room and kitchen. A few years later, when they were expecting their third child, they brought us in to help with an expansion and establish temporary living "zones" as well as clear out a spare room to turn it into a nursery. And once all three kids were grown and out of the nest, they asked us to help as they re-conceptualized their home: reclaiming the kids' rooms for a new home office, gym and guest room.
SOLUTION:
Coordinating with the plans of an interior designer and architect, our organizing team came in to prep the spaces for renovation. Their girls had already taken their most prized possessions, but as kids often do, left closets full of clothes, shelves full of childhood books and memorabilia they just weren't ready to fit into their small apartments. Once they moved into larger homes of their own, they'd be ready for the rest of their belongings. Working room by room, we systematically packed the girl's remaining items so that they were organized and retrievable by category (books, clothing, memorabilia, paper and diplomas, and childhood tchotchkes), and created an inventory and color coding system for each girl so that they knew what was stored and in which box, for anything they may want to retrieve. Our team then researched storage facilities and relocated the children's boxes there. Within 2 weeks, the rooms were cleared and ready for renovation, while preserving the girl's childhood items for future retrieval.
RESULTS:
Rebecca and her husband had their home primed and ready for easy renovation, without the stress and emotional weight of packing. Their daughters have their belongings secure and organized so that they can easily access and move them when they are settled into homes of their own. Rebecca and her husband were fully prepped to move forward into the next chapter of their lives, with a home that is relevant and enriching.
